MACED Releases Health Care Report
On September 27, 2006, MACED released a research report on health care. Urgent Care: Financing and Health Care Provision in Appalachian Kentucky is based on interviews and a survey of more than 50 doctors, dentists, administrators and bankers.
The research shows that rural health providers need financing alternatives beyond traditional lenders to meet their needs. Traditional lenders are becoming more conservative in their lending practices to rural health care providers because of growing numbers of uninsured patients and challenges to the Medicade system.
"Access to quality health care is a critical need for communities in eastern Kentucky. MACED conducted research to determine the effect that a lack of access to capital has on the Appalachian region of Kentucky. We are interested in working with others to find a solution to this problem," stated Justin Maxson, president of MACED.
